with a shocking crime in vallejo. a teenage boy is behind bars on suspicion of kidnapping a 65- year-old woman and holding her for ransom. >> reporter: details are still coming in. police officers describing this crime as horrific. a 14-year-old boy facing multiple charges that include assault, attempted murder, carjacking, kidnapping. let me show you where we are right now. this is hidden brook parkway. this is where the victim was found. a 65-year-old woman duct taped, unconscious, and left in a ditch in this area. here's what we have learned. police say that she had been kidnapped from gunpoint in front of a retail store on plaza drive which is just a few short miles away from here. they said that this woman was coming out of a store when she was approached, taken at gunpoint into her mini van and taken to this area where she was the victim of quote an agree juice physical and sexual assault. she was left in this area in the meantime the suspect apparently called a family member and asked for ransom. if you look around this area you can see it goes into a subdivision. we are off interstate

-year-old. we are in vallejo where we have been following this developing story since 4:30. >> reporter: good morning. police are planning on holding a press conference later this morning where we expect to learn more details but here is what we know. this all started here, this is the plaza shopping center. it's a fairly big shopping center. the woman was coming out of one of the stores when police say she was kidnapped at gun point. according to police she was forced in to her own car and forced to drive this area. she was then the victim of a physical and sexual assault. the victim was left unconscious and duct taped in a ditch and the suspect fled in her car. passerbies noticed the victim. called police and were able to apparently give information to police that helped them capture the suspect. the victim's family members got a ransom call demanding money. police found the 14-year-old back at the same shopping center where the kidnapping happened and he was arrested. when he was taken into custody police say he had the victim's property on him, a replica hand gun and the victim's va

. >> cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is in vallejo now with the investigation this morning. anne, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it is just beginning here at the village bar. this is on tuolumne street in vallejo. you can see inside of the bar not a whole lot of damage to the building. several items are singed. there is some water damage. this is where the investigation is focused this morning. this was though the second fire within about a six-hour period overnight within two blocks. i want to show you some pictures of this fire. a little earlier this broke out at 2:45 at the village bar. and police have called this fire suspicious. they don't know the cause yet. well, two blocks away, there was a house fire at 8:00 last night. that was on alabama street. now, no one was home at the time. so nobody was injured. and firefighters were able to get that out once neighbors alerted them to that fire. but that fire is also suspicious. firefighters don't know the cause of either of these fires. but again, investigations are under way right now at both of those scenes. live in vallejo, anne

, aim tori campbell. >>> a third suspicious fire broke out this morning in vallejo, tara moriarty was covering the story all morning and joins us live to explain what they all have in common. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon. police are calling this guy a serial arsonist and he shows no signs of slowing down. we are here in front of where police believe he last struck, a house across the street from the vallejo police department. >>> it was firefighters third call in about a 12 hour stretch. >> scary, because i slept through the whole thing. >> reporter: lori lives nearby the latest fire that broke out in a vacant office building around 7:30 this morning there. >> you don't see anybody on the streets after 8:00. more like we are under marshal law right now. >> fire investigators have been working with police to catch the person they believe is stop for setting 30 fires over a six to eight month timeframe within a half-mile radius. >> these fires have been kind of similar patterns in terms of vacant buildings, usually set from the exterior but again we have a task force

in vallejo. the woman was found duct taped in a ditch on 80. anne makovec reports. >> we had a conversation with the victim. she is an incredibly strong insightful woman. >> reporter: this lieutenant is referring to a 56-year-old woman kid -- 65-year-old woman kidnapped and assaulted at gunpoint by a 14-year-old boy starting at a shopping center on plaza drive in vallejo late yesterday afternoon. police say the boy forced the woman to drive her minivan a few miles then stopped to assault her both physically and sexually. >> it was an extremely serious violent attack. >> severe head trauma. her eyes were swollen shut. >> reporter: the teen left the woman unconscious bound in duct tape on highway 80 found by passersby. >> they summoned aid for her, took care of her and got her treatment. they also provided information to the police which ultimately assisted us in making the arrest. >> reporter: as police were gathering those clues, they say the teen called one of the victim's family members demanding ransom money. police arrested the boy soon after, back at the shopping center, still in posse
